Sharing Bread

We paid for someone’s bread at the bakery in our town. We gave the cashier some money and a note about Ron Kim Day.

Then….Ron Kim Day got this message

Subject: Thank you for the bread in Takoma Park

Thank you for the generous gift for the bread for our family’s picnic lunch today. We are from VT and in Takoma Park, MD for a visit with friends and watching their kids while they work.

And then…

Second part of the story - lemonade and baked goods

Message: Inspired by the free bread this morning by the person who paid it forward, the kids are selling lemonade by donation and also supplying neighbors and friends for free. They have made $60 so far and are deciding which charity to donate it to.

Notes for our waiters

Today, I’m in a different place than the rest of my family, on a beach trip with my friends. As we went out for dinner, we left the waiter an extra big tip and a kind note wishing her well and some motivation. My family, back in Maryland, also did the same for their waiter. We also gave them the information to pass the gesture along. Headed to an amusement park now, planning to buy tickets for the family behind us in line!

A great day for smiles and laughs

Today was a Ron Kim day. I've been battling some late summer stressors at work and at home and have had quite a long week at work so far. This week, all the remote employees come to HQ in Mass for a week of updates, reorgs, and admin work. This is on top of the usual late summer escalations from clients and the expectation to still keep the lights on.

Today, though, amid the stress and the emails, I had one of the best days I've had at work in quite some time. I was so happy, taking the excessive meetings and work all in stride, and I had some incredible moments of laughter and joy with my colleagues. Our team bonding event for our team of 7 was at a Hibachi restaurant and we spent hours in the restaurant and parking lot after, just enjoying the company of others. The Hibachi chef made us all laugh to the point of tears, and we were having the most Kim moments that I could imagine. I was in an awesome mood and it broke the mold of the week. I am writing this in bed as I think of Ron - that was the joy that Ron brought. Ron was such a ray of light on the hardest and darkest days, and I felt that today was a day spent in his image.

Got my friend dinner

Message: I met up with a friend after work today for her to help me do some shopping. We spent a great evening laughing and enjoying each other’s company. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and I covered her meal before she could even reach the cash register. I never met Ron, but from hearing so much about him, I imagine these are the kinds of things he did every single day :)
